About Tanzi

  Tanzi Craig, founder and editor of SoloParenting.com, has been a solo mom since 2008 to her two daughters Amanda and Allison. In 2008 she was, in her words, broken, by tremendous betrayals during her marriage coinciding with a terrible economy and crashing real estate market. She figured this is what the philosphers meant by "existential mid-life crisis." By 2010 she put the pieces of herself back together, stronger than before (well, sort of, or mostly!) while trying to be the best parent she could be, running a business, volunteering, dating, maintaining friendships, just living.

That year she noticed lots of phone calls from friends asking how she was doing it all because they were either newly separated or considering separation. Tanzi listened to everyone's stories and questions and noticed some common patterns of behavior and emotions despite each person's unique circumstances. She thought people would feel relieved to know that other people were experiencing the same types of feelings on their journey and would appreciate hearing reassurance from parents futher down the solo parent path. She also knew she was no expert to answer all the questions and give any advice other than about her personal journey or personal story. At the same time, she felt like she was handling a lot of things pretty well and maybe it would be worthwhile to figure out some of the systems and people she had in place to succeed in order to share those with other people.

In the meantime, she thought surely there was a website somewhere for people to get information and to commiserate, especially during sleepless nights or anxious moments or lonely hours when the house is eerily quiet because the kids are gone for the weekend and you just aren't used to it yet. After searching online and finding, well, not much other than a stray article here or there on other parenting sites, she conceptualized this site. The site a labor of love and may experience some growing pains, sort of like it's Tanzi's third child.
